Title of the Position: Specialty Foods Baker (Korean-style cake/dessert)

Wage: $15.50 per hour

Term of Employment: Permanent, full-time, day shift schedule (at least 35 hours per week)

Duties

  • Prepare and bake batter to make modernized traditional Korean rice cakes and bean paste cakes and desserts, including various decorative authentic Korean treats made of rice powder or bean paste

  • Decorate traditional Korean cakes, cookies and other baked goods according to custom orders for events such as birthdays, baby showers, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, etc.

  • Ensure that the quality of products meets established standards

  • Demonstrate how to make Korean rice cakes and desserts to audiences, if requested

  • Draw up production schedules and specialized Korean authentic menus to introduce the desserts to Canada

  • Purchase specialized baking supplies for Korean rice cakes and desserts

  • Requisition or order materials, equipment and supplies; Prepare dishes for customers that consider food allergies or intolerances

  • Train baking personnel and kitchen staff

  • May oversee web sales of traditional Korean rice cakes and desserts

Requirements

  • Languages: English (Fluency in Korean is an asset)

  • Education: College certificate or diploma (visual art or design-related program preferred); Korean rice cake or dessert-related certificates are preferred

  • Personal Suitability: Team player; attentive to detail; Creative

  • Working Conditions

  • Physically demanding; standing for extended periods; tight deadlines; Overtime may be required
